Feeling your fetus kick is exciting; not feeling the movements for prolonged periods is worrying. It is a good practice to keep a record of your unborn baby’s activities on a kick count sheet or in a notebook. It is an easy, non-invasive, harmless method you can use to monitor fetal well being during the third trimester. A fetus typically starts to make obvious movements which can be felt by the pregnant mother from around weeks 18-20 but it is only after week 28 of your pregnancy that you can actually count with some consistency. This is a reliable tool for assessing the well being of your fetus on your home grounds.

The Whys and the Whats of kick count

• These movements include kicks, turns, rolls and jabs; it excludes hiccups

• Fetus spends 10% of its time making gross, obvious movements

• The active phase lasts 40 minutes and the inactive for about 20 minutes

• You get to familiarize yourself with baby’s sleep/wake patterns.

• Most babies take less than 30 minutes to make 10 movements.

• Become familiar with baby’s emerging ‘personality’. Some babies are more active then others; this is not reflective of baby’s health but rather his/her nature

• Though charting fetal kick counts is highly useful in high risk pregnancies, it is beneficial for all pregnancies.

• It is a fine way of bonding with your baby.

• It is important to take into account that your baby has sleep times which can last up to 4 hours at a stretch, though it should not be longer than that.

• Kicks tend to slow down in the third trimester  as it gets less roomy for fetus

• Studies show the average time to feel ten kicks are around 20-30 minutes.

Baby is continuing to grow and develop but the rapid growth rate slows down a little. Baby has a more human appearance now.

Body hair is becoming coarser, eyelashes are beginning to appear on your baby’s eyelids, baby’s lips have formed, taste buds have started to develop, and regardless of gender, nipples are starting to develop on top of the mammary glands. The placenta is approximately half an inch thick and 3 inches across. By the time you deliver it will be 1½ inches thick and about 10-12 inches across.

My word, are my legs sore and stiff.

Waldette is doing twice a week Preggie Bellie at the Gym.
My perception is that they sit on one of those  exercise balls and do breathing exerciser.

Not a clue what to expect I excepted an invitation from the instructor to all the hubbies to join for a session and for that we will receive a bottle of wine. (say no more)

So, Saterdag 9h00 daag ek op. Enigste “donor” daar. Apparently I had the dates wrong.

Misses Hitler the instructor assured me its not a problem and that I can still join.

Waldette was very chuft with this and even selected a “not pink” ball for me to sit on.

Ok, so we started with sitting on the ball and do moves in patterns similar to the “Yea Makarina” moves at Danskraal. (and I cannot do that kind of thing, ek raak net deur mekaar)
Na 10min was ek so ver agter en geknoop dat Hitler se ma my jammer gekry het, en voor gestel het ek staan maar en doen die bene lig en arm swaai ding op my voete.

Massive mistake. Na die klas vind ek uit sy is n provisional kick boxer, dit gese,moet ek boxing moved doen. Jab, jab, jab, koes. Butterfly jumps. 20 van hulle. Nou wat de donner wil n pregnant vrou butterfly jumps doen. Die kind gaan mos uit skud, maaaar nee. Die hubby moet.

60min and 2 liters of water later I was allowed to stop.

Net in opsomming. Ek het respek hou hard hulle die ma’s druk om hulle arms, bene en maage oefen. Tog verander dit nie die vyt dat ek op ge-pick is en nou suffer nie.

Wel, volgende Saterdag sien ek misses Hitler again.

Ongelukkig was baba nie gewillig om reg te le nie en die gesiggie was toe met die plasenta.
